This is good, often surprisingly serious, scifi. I'm not a huge Seth MacFarlane fan, though I enjoyed 'A Million Ways to Die in the West', so I am pleasantly surprised by how much I am enjoying this series.

The humor is sometimes incisive satire, and often quite silly but the show maintains a dramatic element which makes it quite watchable for Trekkies and the like.

My favorite episode so far is 'Majority Rule'.

The big knock against is that they force the word "d**k" into every episode. I'm not a f**kin' prude, I just abhor lazy humor.

I can't really say more than some are already saying. This is a fun show, a comfy show. The characters and situations may not be new but they are unique enough to add a twist to the narrative while still making it easy for you to relate to them. It is not too dark and it is witty and has heart and perhaps because of this, it doesn't browbeat you or get in your face with its moral lesson of the show, when it has a moral lesson of the show.

As for Seth Macfarlane, I don't know him and have only seen clips of Family Guy and while amusing it is not really my cup of cool whhhip. I have seen a few interviews with him and he seems very erudite, polite, and generous. Plus he seems to attract a lot of a-list actors that guest on his shows. Liam frelling Neeson and Charlize frelling Theron everybody. So I can't believe he is as huge an asshat as some profess.

Anyway, I enjoy the show and I am glad I am not alone.

Yes! The Orville is back! I'm sad that [SPOILER] because she was (to me) well-cast. I guess there's a curse on the position of [SPOILER] in Star Trek "shows." I liked that Seth handled it with class and left the door open for her... I've always thought Seth Macfarlane was a childish A-hole but perhaps he has some depth and empathy in him yet! Bortus and Isaac are my two favorite characters! Gordon follows suit very closely.

I can't wait for new episodes to post and hope the show goes on to have many, many more seasons.

New favorite comedy show. It's so feel-good. Bloody hilarious in my eyes and I seldom lol irl, BUT I've learned what to appreciate from Seth, and I like the kind of humour in this show. If you like any of his other work, you might find this appealing. Or you might anyway, it's a bit of drama and sci-fi too. Happy binging out there!

@Muspeljotn At S2, Episode 4 it's venturing deeper into sci-fi. And does it well imo.

Just like everyone else is saying: I get a strong does of Star Trek TNG from this show, which, Macfarlane is a huge fan of. It actually has its own voice in that it does have the silly sense of humor of its creator but the episodes are actually pretty darn poignant. One that is especially complex is "The Krill." I think it succeeds in showing how complex war can be. By making one moral decision, they lay open the future for violent reciprocal consequences. Not everything is so black and white in the real world. :T

Good stuff. Can't wait for Season 2! The trailer for it looks pretty good :)

Hey what's not to like? - sexy spaceships, pretty women in tight spandex, futuristic shoot-em-ups, you just have to hold your nose of course because of Seth McFarlane.

I've watched the first 3 episodes of this now, it is really funny some great characters as you'd expect from Seth MacFarlane. The Orville is an excellent spoof send up of all your Sci-Fi favourites

When you consider that this is starring the creator of American Dad and Family Guy you'd expect it to be a mass orgy of fart jokes, sex jokes and complete insanity but that's not the case at all. Excluding the Ted films, MacFarlane's live action stuff has some good storytelling, subtle satire and really cleverly worked, laugh out loud moments. This is more like A Million Ways to die in the West (I think that's the title).

What you can expect here is a send up of most sci-fi like star trek and stargate but it also has some good and serious storytelling in there too with some unexpectedly poignant points made. Well worth a watch.

Interestingly, Seth MacFarlane had a small role on Star Trek: Enterprise so not his first sci-fi foray.

Its funny and not meant to be to serious. Don't get your ass in a wad comparing it to star trek. I watched all 10 episodes and say they are entertaining with a laugh here and there. I give The Orville 7 out of 10.

Well I watched the 1st episode of this and was presently surprised. Was not sure what to expect with Seth MacFarlane being in a Sci Fi show. The effects were very good and it has a nice flow to the comedy. I for one enjoyed this show.

But not been much comady with decent budjet want laugth at jokes instead of wall that move just walking past it. seth obvisly better being comical guy than drama. Have a look it not to bad. If family guy fan its obvisly for u
